Describe the personality or look of your tree.

This old and wise Eucalyptus tree has lived in Ashwood longer than any other resident. With it’s looming branches, it watches and oversees walkers, runners and cyclists making their way through the path which emerges from underneath it.

Why is this tree important to you?

This tree stands out to me on my daily walk with my dog, towering over all of the other trees that surround it. Because of it’s size, I think it must be older than any of the houses that surround it. During lockdown I passed by this tree every day and thought it’s immensity and beautiful eucalyptus leaves should be admired by more people.

What does a sustainable future look like in Monash?

A sustainable future in Monash to me looks like all members of our community contributing to looking after our environment. Although our individual actions may seem insignificant, together we can make huge progress. I would love to see council taking on more initiatives to further reduce emissions and improve the quality of the local environment in Monash.

What are you doing right now to create that future?

To work towards the future I’m taking small steps every day to reduce my carbon footprint and implement more sustainable practices in my household. This includes buying grocery items with minimal plastic packaging, growing my own plants, recycling all waste and minimising water usage.
