I participated in the Young Women’s Leadership Program and from there I decided I wanted to continue participating with Monash Youth Services. On Youth Services’ website I came across Monash Youth Committee (MYC) which intrigued me as I am passionate about advocating for young people hence, I decided to join.

MYC gives youth a platform to advocate for their rights and beliefs. I personally have enjoyed advocating for headspace, meeting up with Members of Parliament to discuss youth related issues and giving back to the community.

I have developed strong communication skills as we meet with third parties such as MPs and other youth advocacy groups. Being the chair during covid has also taught me how to promptly adapt to change with our meetings and workshops moving online.

I would definitely recommend joining MYC if you are passionate about making an impact on youth related issues such as mental health, housing, education, environment, etc. Not only will you learn advocacy but will also be able to grow your interpersonal and professional skills.
