Nothing quite compares to the experience of helping organise the Clayton Festival this year. Being part of the event planning committee gave me a real insight into the effort required to bring a large community event to life. It wasn’t just about the final day. It was about all the planning, communication, and problem-solving that happened beforehand to make sure everything ran successfully.

Before the festival even began, there was a huge amount of preparation happening behind the scenes. From organising activities and coordinating with different groups to promoting the event, every task required teamwork and careful planning. There were moments where things didn’t go exactly as planned, but working through those challenges as a team made the experience even more rewarding and helped everything come together in the end.

The moment everything came together on the day was unforgettable. Crowds gathered, music played, and the entire space felt alive as people explored stalls, watched performances, and enjoyed the atmosphere. Seeing families and friends come together and genuinely have a good time made all the hard work feel completely worth it.

What stood out most during this journey was the connections formed with other committee members. Spending time working towards a shared goal naturally built strong friendships. Whether we were brainstorming ideas or just having a laugh during meetings, those moments made the experience more enjoyable and something I’ll remember beyond the event itself.

Skills like leadership and communication developed naturally throughout the process. Taking responsibility, sharing ideas, and working collaboratively taught me how important it is to listen to others and contribute effectively. It also gave me more confidence in stepping up and being involved in something meaningful.

In the end, the Clayton Festival wasn’t just an event. It was an opportunity to be part of something bigger than myself. Being involved showed me the importance of community and how events like this can bring people together. Walking away from it all, I felt proud of what we created, inspired by the experience, and excited to be involved again in the future.
