Youth Mental Health Training

Monash Youth Services are offering Youth Mental Health training on Friday 7 October approximately 9am-5pm online for young people 18-25 years living in the City of Monash. The training is being delivered through Mental Health First Aid Australia.

The blended online course will include two components that are supported through accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor:

Component 1: A self-paced eLearning component; and

Component 2: An Instructor-led workshop component delivered online using video conferencing technology

Participants are required to complete both course components of a Blended MHFA Course to be eligible to complete our Accreditation Assessment.

There are eLearning modules you will need to complete before the training. Monash Youth Services is funding the training and all we ask is that each person contributes $20 toward the training.

The eLearning component will take approximately four to five hours of commitment. After the successful completion of the course you will be an Accredited Mental Health First Aider.

The Youth MHFA course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals. The course equips adults with the skills to recognise and respond to an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis situation. Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, Youth MHFA teaches participants how to support an adolescent until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves. Mental health problems covered • Depression and anxiety • Eating disorders • Psychosis • Substance use problems Mental health crises covered • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours • Non-suicidal self-injury • Panic attacks • Traumatic events • Severe psychotic states • Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use • Aggressive behaviours.
